Wild alum forward Kyle Stephan is another player who has been able to advance his career to the collegiate ranks, now preparing for his senior year at American International College.
A native of Barrie, ONT, Canada, Stephan attended the Banff Hockey Academy in Alberta after playing midget hockey near home in Barrie. For two seasons at Banff, he dominated offensively and was named the CSSHL Most Valuable Player in 2012-13. His first Junior A season brought him closer to home, about 45 minutes to the south where he played for the Newmarket Hurricanes of the OJHL. He elected to play in the US the following year, joining the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Shortly after New Years, he was traded to the Wild. He finished the season then returned in 2015-16 to play in all 58 games, scoring 24 goals and adding 22 assists, earning a Division I commitment to American International College.
His junior year (2018-19) at AIC was his best so far as he pumped in 27 points over the year, helping AIC win the AHA (Atlantic Hockey) championship. His senior year is approaching with high expectations for both Stephan and his Yellow Jacket teammates.
