ZECH CLAIMS ANOTHER BCHL HONOR

(from the BCHL office)

At the conclusion of the every BCHL game through the regular season and playoffs, one player is recognized for his hustle with the FortisBC Energy Player of the Game.

The results are tracked on the BCHL website and now, for the fifth consecutive year, the league is recognizing two players who racked up more energy recognition than anyone else.

Merritt Centennials forward Brendan Schneider, who earned 12 FortisBC Energy Player of the Game nods is the regular-season recipient of the honour while Wenatchee Wild defenceman Cooper Zech – who earned the recognition five times in the playoffs – is the postseason champ.

Schneider, a native of Wellesley, Ont., posted 16 goals and 20 assists for the Cents this season while playing in 57 games and registering 36 penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound righthand shot finished the regular season on a high as he was named a game star and/or the Energy Player of the Game in five of the last seven contests

Schneider is committed to NCAA Div. I Mercyhurst University for next season.

In the playoffs, Wild blueliner Zech took the Energy Player nod more than all other postseason competitors. The native of South Lyon, Mich. recorded four goals and 19 helpers in 20 games as the Wild claimed the Fred Page Cup BCHL title for the first time.

Zech was the sixth-leading scorer in the postseason after a regular season in which he had 11 goals and 58 assists for 69 points which placed him fourth overall in the league. He was named the 2018 BCHL Top Defenceman. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound D-man is committed to NCAA Div. I Ferris State University for next season.
