WILD TOPPLED IN SALMON ARM

WILD TOPPLED IN SALMON ARM

By Arch Ecker

On Friday night the Wenatchee Wild trekked north to the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm, BC to face the 4-0-1 Silverbacks.

The Silverbacks busted out like a house afire, scoring three goals on their first five shots, cashing in a pair of 2-on-1 breaks and a seeing eye point shot, enough to chase Wild goalie Tyler Shea and bring in Andy Vlaha. Just 12 seconds later a Silverbacks partial breakaway led to a 4-0 lead for the home team. Wild captain Quinn Emerson stopped the bleeding with a snappy wrister from the left circle at 13:28 of the opening frame. At 17:41 it was Hudson Blue who picked off a Salmon Arm pass to create his own breakaway while killing a penalty and buried it off the bottom of the Silverbacks goalie’s blocker to close the gap to 2, which is where the first period ended.

It seemed the fireworks had died down with a briskly paced start to the middle frame, but Salmon Arm would find the back of the net three more times. The first one came on a Wild line change and a 5-hole shot from the right wall, followed by a wrister from the high slot that caught a piece of Vlaha’s blocker. The Silverbacks pulled ahead 7-2 as Noah Serdachny completed his hat trick with high blocker side snipe from the left circle.

The Silverbacks punctuated their victory with a third period tally for the 8-2 final margin as they improved to 5-0-1 on the season, with Wenatchee sliding to 0-3-2.

The Wild return to the ice Saturday night at 7:00 pm in Trail to face the Smoke Eaters at Cominco Arena. Live coverage will be available on bchltv.com and NewsRadio 560 KPQ. Follow the Wild on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
