WILD SCRIMMAGES SHOWCASE PROMISING ROSTER

The existence of a pandemic and the seemingly endless stream of restrictions and necessary safety precautions have forced the sporting world along with everyone else to be creative in terms of finding ways to compete and stay sharp and ready as we get closer to returning to normalcy.

To create a scrimmage environment that would most closely simulate game action, the Wild were able to welcome eight players from Western Hockey League rosters to participate. Additionally, a number of players from Wenatchee’s development teams program joined in to round out the rosters for the Blue/White scrimmages played at Frontier Ice Arena in Coeur d’Alene, ID last week. Fans that made the trip to Idaho saw WHL players from Seattle, Spokane, Everett, and Lethbridge mixed in with players from the Wenatchee Wild 2020-21 roster. Even Walt the Wolf, the celebrated Wild mascot was in attendance.

Both scrimmages were played at a brisk pace as the players embraced the opportunity to open up and play at full speed following two weeks of practices. Eleven different players scored goals over the two days, led by Wild forward Cy LeClerc who collected two goals and two assists. Wild winger Maksis Brimanis lit the lamp twice, as did Wild forward Derek Humphreys. Splitting time in net were Wild netminders Andy Vlaha and Karsten Bourgoine along with WHL goalies Braden Holt (Everett) and Junior Porter (Spokane).

The scrimmages were the first of six scheduled to be played in Idaho. The remaining scrimmages are set for Nov. 6 (1:30 pm), and Nov. 7 (7:30 pm), then Nov. 13 (11:00 am) and Nov. 14 (7:30 pm). The scrimmages are scheduled to be streamed live on HockeyTV.com. The first two were filmed and are available now on our YouTube channel (WenWild).
