With Wenatchee stuck in Phase 2 of the reopening plan, the only way to conduct scrimmages requires a short trip to the Frontier Ice Arena in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Last weekend, the Wild players were joined by seven WHL players and a couple of players from the Development Teams roster to compete in a pair of scrimmage contests.
There has been a fair amount of movement between the Blue and White squads, as different players have come in and coaches orchestrate competitive balance and line combinations. So the fact that Team White swept the weekend is rendered somewhat irrelevant as several players swapped sides from one game to the next.
Friday’s game was a high octane, high scoring affair, eventually won by Team White 10-3. Bear Hughes (Spokane Chiefs, WHL) led the way with three goals and an assist, while Erik Atchison (Spokane, WHL) and Weston Turner each scored twice. Aidan Cobb picked up a goal and an assist for Team Blue.
Saturday was a tighter knit contest, with Jack Lambert (Everett Silvertips, WHL) scoring the first three goals of the game for the natural hat trick. In the third period, trailing 4-0, Team Blue scored twice to make for a spirited finish, but the 4-2 margin proved to be the final.
The next set of scrimmages are set for Friday Nov. 13 (11:00 am) and Saturday Nov. 14 (7:30 pm). The scrimmages are scheduled to be streamed live AT NO CHARGE on HockeyTV.com. Search “BCHL” to locate the stream.
