The Wenatchee Wild broke a scoreless tie late in the second, then rolled on to add four more in the third period on the way to a 5-1 preseason victory over the Penticton Vees on Friday night at the iFIBER Rink in Wenatchee.
The first period saw each side play with good energy and speed, but neither team could score. Late in the second period, Jake Vaughan redirected a PJ Fletcher shot for a 1-0 Wild lead that held until the intermission.
Things ramped up in the final period. Lucas Sowder put Wenatchee up by two, finishing off an AJ Hodges feed at 4:50. The Vees cut that deficit in half when David Silye found the back of the net, but the Wild kept up the pressure. Hunter Alden tapped in a loose rebound at 11:45, following an attempt by Jacques Bouquot and set up by Josh Arnold. Wenatchee added to their lead when AJ Hodges fired a shot into the net at 13:18, assisted by Drake Usher, and the final 5-1 margin was reached when Jacques Bouquot scored :27 seconds later, assisted by Josh Arnold and Jacob Modry. Overall, Wenatchee outshot the Vees 39-30, with Austin Park and Cal Sandquist splitting time in net.
Wenatchee’s preseason concludes tomorrow night as the Wild travel to Penticton for a 6pm matchup with the Vees.
The regular season begins for Wenatchee on Sept. 7 when the Wild visit the Vernon Vipers. The Wild Home Opener will be Friday October 12 against the Nanaimo Clippers, and will feature the unveiling of the Championship Banners, a Ring Ceremony, and more.
