The Wenatchee Wild, proud members of the BCHL, held their July Camp last weekend at “The Rink”, the year-round ice facility which sits adjacent to the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee.
Several members from last year’s team participated, as well as a number of players hoping to earn an invite to the Wild Main Camp in August. Head Coach / GM Bliss Littler was encouraged by what he saw. “The compete level from the guys in camp this year was excellent”, he said. “They understand what it takes to play here.” Littler had plenty of extra watchful eyes as Associate Head Coach Tom Rudrud and Assistant Coach Chris Clark were on hand, along with Michael Zucker, Ryan McKelvie, and Jake Obermeyer. Also, John Harwood, who serves as an East Coast scout was in town to help with the proceedings.
Nearly eighty players were divided into four teams who competed in games beginning with a pair on Friday night, followed by four games on Saturday and an All-Star Game on Sunday morning. Hundreds of fans took advantage of the opportunity to catch an early glimpse of next season’s team. Upon the camp’s conclusion, the coaches began the process of selecting which players will report when the Main Camp commences in accordance with league guidelines on August 22. The Wild season opens Sept. 14 in Prince George, BC and the home opener will be Sept.30 against Langley.
