A tough three game weekend on the road against the top three teams in the Interior Division got off on the right foot as the Wenatchee Wild battled to a 3-1 win over the Vernon Vipers at Kal Tire Place in Vernon, BC on Friday night.

The Wild killed off two early penalties and outshot the Vipers 21-12 in the opening period, but each side had nothing to show for their efforts as both goaltenders sparkled. In the second period, the Wild took a 1-0 lead when Matt Baker muscled home a wraparound under the right leg pad of Viper goalie Darion Hanson at 2:01. On a power play shortly afterward, Charlie Combs rifled a shot upstairs from the lower part of the right circle, assisted by Brendan Harris and Chad Sasaki at 6:50. The Wild lead climbed to 3-0 lead at 8:47 as Jasper Weatherby deflected a Chad Sasaki shot from the right wing wall and Wenatchee led by three at the end of the second. The tenacious Viper offense managed a goal at 8:20 of the third as Austin Adamson collected the rebound of a shot from the point, but the Wild held on as Vernon pulled their goalie for the final two minutes for the extra attacker. Anthony Yamnitsky made several key stops to preserve the win, making 31 saves in all.

Wenatchee (39-8-4-0) continues their weekend in Penticton (36-12-2-1) on Saturday, and Trail on Sunday. The Vees clinched the Interior Division Regular Season title on Friday with the Vipers loss. Game time Saturday is 6:00 pm PST. All Wild games are aired live locally on Sunny FM 93.9 and available online with pay-per-view at HockeyTV.com.
