The Wenatchee Wild won the first three games of their best-of-seven series, but Prince George has been able to stave off elimination twice with wins on home ice, sending the series back to Wenatchee for Game 6, to be played Sunday night at 8:05 pm. The late start time is due to the conversion time required following the weekend Home Show.
Wenatchee’s vaunted power play had two chances early in the first period but were unable to convert. Prince George took a 1-0 lead when Kyle Johnson got a step on the defense while driving down the left wing, cut to his right to move through the slot and was able to squeeze his shot past the left leg pad of Anthony Yamnitsky at 11:55. Then at 13:01, a Wild defensive zone clear was thwarted, and the initial shot was blocked by Austin Chavez. The rebound popped to Brett Mennear who snapped a wrister through traffic which Yamnitsky kicked aside, but Ben Brar was there to tuck it across for a 2-0 Spruce King lead that stood at the end of one period. Wenatchee cut into the deficit at 10:19 of the second period as Dakota Raabe ripped a shot from the right wing circle and the game stayed 2-1 through the second period. The Wild called their time out with 1:40 left in the third and pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, but the Spruce Kings hit the abandoned twine for the 3-1 lead and eventual victory to keep their season alive.
Wenatchee now leads the best-of-seven series three games to two, and will look to close it out with a win in Game 6 on Sunday at 8:05 pm in Wenatchee. If required, Game 7 will take place on Monday night at 7:05 pm. All Wild games are aired live locally on Sunny FM 93.9 and available online with pay-per-view at HockeyTV.com.
